Fraunhofer IPA (Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation)

Introduction:

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is one of the world’s leading applied research organisations in Germany. Two-thirds of research funding comes from German government grants and industrial contracts, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (Fraunhofer IPA) is one of the largest of the 76 institutes under the Fraunhofer umbrella, with about 1,200 researchers. Research and development activities focus on organisational and technical tasks in production. Development, testing and application of processes, components and equipment up to complete systems are possible.

In 11 business units, IPA works with companies of different sizes to turn research findings into complete solutions, particularly for the automotive, mechanical and plant engineering, electronics and microsystems technology, energy, medical and biotechnology, and process industries.

IPA Institute is also a leader in the field of Industry 4.0 research, with strong competence in information-physical systems, next-generation industrial buses, digital twin technology, and advanced sensing technology.
IPA is also the technical support R&D partner of Catena-X, the collaborative and standardised data ecosystem of the International Automobile Federation (IAF), dedicated to helping all Central European companies in the automotive value chain to achieve digital and sustainable transformation.
